How It Works

The alarm is one part of the equation when it comes to training your child to have dry nights forever.

The other half is the support and encouragement provided to a child, so they are motivated to start using the alarm and continue using it every night until they feel confident in being able to naturally wake up and visit the bathroom without a bedwetting alarm.

The first days and weeks of using the Dry-Me Bedwetting Alarm will make all the difference in whether you have success or not.

Parents need to provide some support and assistance during the firs stages, and in some cases this can mean sleeping near your child for the first few nights so that when the alarm activates, you are there to remind them to rise out of bed and head to the bathroom.

Gradually your child will get used to this process and will have the motivation to get up without your assistance.

Finally, the end result is that your child will be able to fully sleep through the whole night while having control of their bladder while sleeping, and going to the toilet in the morning rather than wetting the bed.

When this happens for at least a couple of weeks without any incidents, your child is ready to stop using the enuresis alarm!

Because kids can soon get accustomed to hearing the same alarm sound, and as a result not get up or not even wake up at all when it goes off, the Dry-Me has 8 different sounds and one is played at random when it’s activated.

This keeps it mixed up and ensures that a child doesn’t become relaxed with the same sound every night. There’s also a light on the alarm, which is really there to help a child find the alarm in the dark, rather than being a function to wake them up.

Once the tiny electronic sensor detects the first sign of wetness from urine, one of the 8 inbuilt alarm sound is immediately activated. You can also choose to have the alarm vibrate at the same time. There are actually three different settings to pick from as a method of waking your child:

  • Alarm sound only
  • Vibration only
  • Alarm sound + vibration

The vibration only option lets a child use the alarm very discreetly, and is useful when they may be sleeping somewhere away from home around other people where who they’d rather not alert to the fact that they’re using the alarm; such as camping trips, sleepovers at friend’s homes and other situations including if your child shares a room with a sibling.

Your child can still wear pull-ups while using the alarm. This can be a good idea in the early stages, until you start seeing improvements and progress.

Pros

  • Multiple settings for alarm activation with loud sounds & vibration
  • Microprocessor sensor has a large detection area, making it more likely to detect immediate wetness
  • Uses low cost batteries

Cons

  • Plastic clip could be stronger. This part of the product has a 90 day warranty (the alarm itself has a 1 year warranty)
  • Overall quality not as high as other alarms; but the Dry-Me costs less

Final Word

Described as a “value priced” alarm, this product isn’t the lowest cost enuresis alarm available but if you’re looking in the lower end of middle price range, it’s one to consider.

It is a popular choice, and contains some of the features that you won’t find in the cheapest products, like being able to select a discreet vibrate-only alarm option. With that said, the build quality is not the highest which is to be expected in most cases at this price range.

If you want an alarm that is better built, look in a higher price bracket at something like the Malem. But for those on a budget, the Dry-Me is a bedwetting alarm that can certainly get you started on the path to eliminating your child’s bedwetting problem.
